My Coins - SGM Leeling

This coin is an interesting coin. In fact, I'm not sure it fits the true definition of a coin. I'll start with the description of the coin and then talk about how I came to acquire it.

First, let me just describe the center of the coin. The square actually spins! One side of the square is the 4th Infantry Division's patch. The patch has a circle in the center with four ivy leaves stemming from the center. The 4th Infantry division chose the ivy leaf as its icon because the ivy leaf signifies such qualities as steadfastness, loyalty, virtue, and faithfullness. This icon has represented the 4th Infantry Division since its creation during World War I. Also note that the ivy is a bit of a play on words, as the Roman Numeral for four is IV, hence the Division's nickname of "IVY DIVISION." The other side of the square features the icon of Fort Carson with snow-capped mountains in the background (the Rocky Mountains) and a valley with green trees in the foreground. The words "THE MOUNTAIN POST" appear in the bottom center of the square. "THE MOUNTAIN POST" is Fort Carson's nickname. Along the sides of the square are the words "STAY ARMY IRONHORSE STRONG." One side of the coin lists out the wars in which the Division has fought: WORLD WAR I, WORLD WAR II, VIETNAM, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (Iraq), and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (Afghanistan). The wars are separated by stars. The other side of the coin has the words "THE IVY DIVISION" at the top and "4TH INFANTRY" at the bottom. The top and bottom are separated by the rank insignia of the Sergeant Major, three chevrons over three rockers with a star in the center. This insignia is slightly different from that of the Command Sergeant Major in which the star is surrounded by a wreath.

I recieved this coin from Sergeant Major Scott Leeling, who is the Retention Sergeant Major for the 4th Infantry Division. SGM Leeling gave me this coin in Iraq because I helped him with some computer issues he was having. This was my first coin during my second tour.

I designed that coin for CSM Dailey a couple years back. I guess he donated the leftovers to retention after he had his next coin designed for the deployment. (Which is still based off of my design!)

I had no idea that you designed the coin. That's freaking awesome, though.
