Pictured here is one of the last coins I recieved in Iraq. The coin was given to me by Captain Ann Janice Vogan, the Commander of A Co. CPT Vogan gave me the coin for helping her get her computer set up in a new work area that she was required to move into, near the end of the tour. She also told me that the coin was for all of the help I gave her when she was the Assistant S-3. I had seen one of these coins in CSM Moore's office and had made it known that my goal was to do something to earn one for myself. The shape of the coin is that of the company's guidon, or flag. The front side is actually a replica of the guidon, which is red and blue with "A CO" in white letters accross the center of the top, the 4th Infantry Division's patch in the center, and the word "Attack!" in white letters accross the bottom center. The reverse side is black with the double bar insignia of the Captain's rank and the three chevrons with three rockers and diamond insignia of the rank of First Sergeant. The rank insignia are on either side of a white skull. Above the ranks and skull are the words "Commander and First Sergeant." Below the skull are the words "Coin of Excellence." Now, one must understand that often times, a Company Commander or First Sergeant will pay for Company-level coins out of personal funds, as opposed to unit funds. Thus, this coin is rather special because it cost CPT Vogan something to give it to me. I believe the coin I got from CPT Richards in B Co cost her something, as well. The next installment in this series will talk about another such coin.
An account of the various and many adventures of my life. Some of it will be past adventures, while other parts have yet to be written because I have yet to have those adventures. But rest assured, my life is ALWAYS an adventure. In fact, I make it a point to have at least one adventure per 24 hours... .
